It's time to reward those who successfully took a challenge that was born out of a tragedy less than a year ago. Members of Mariah's Challenge Foundation announced Thursday that they are prepared to give 17 scholarships totaling $30,000. The awards, which range from $1,000 to $5,000, will be given to seniors from Butte–Silver Bow County in April 2009. “This is a follow–up to a promise,” Leo McCarthy said Thursday.

A new scholarship program is available to high school seniors in Butte.
The scholarship is in honor of Mariah McCarthy, a ninth grade Butte High School freshman killed in a crash allegedly caused by a drunk driver in October of 2007.
