I am a chemical dependency counselor at The Missoula Indian Center and work with multiple offenders with DUI's and other drinking related crimes. Currently I run the Intensive Outpatient group 3 nights a week. I had my group members attend Missoula Meets the Challenge-Missoula Forum for Children and Youth March 24th at City Life Center. Needless to say, we were all moved by the Mariah's Challenge movement! Thank you for being there, Leo! My co-worker and I, Dana Kingfisher, are going to get an event planned for the month of April as it is Alcohol Awareness Month (SAMSA). Dana works with the Native youth population and we both see a benefit to getting involved and getting the word out about saying No to underage drinking and No to drinking and driving! We will be in touch soon!

I attended the meeting in Missoula tonight and have to admit you shook up my world. I am a dad of a beautiful 16 year old daughter and I have driven drunk way more times than I want to admit, so Mariah's story has brought me to my knees. I am sorry you had to lose your daughter in order for me to wake up, but I assure you I am wide awake now and want to do what I can to help. Thank you for being strong enough to share your story, and Mariah's story. Bless you and count me in!

I believe that this challenge is very important to the teens of this generation, and of generations to come. I proudly accept the challenge.

A few days before this happened me and my friends were hanging out with Mariah and her friends. It seemed like they had so many plans for the future, and now. But then, a few days later I had heard a rumor that a little boy got hit by a truck. I didn't believe it, it was a rumor. I went to my friends house and her mom was gone. Her mom was a nurse. I still didn't think about it. I got curious and asked where her mom was, " Ummm... where is your mom?" I simply said. She replied, " Well she got called to work because of a girl who got hit by a car." I got a little shaky, " Oh." I said. We took a walk around the block and a lady and her friend were standing by their mail box, " Yeah did you hear about that poor little girl who got hit by a drunk driver?" One of the ladies said. But suddenly my mom drove up to get me without me knowing. She told me to get in the car, so I did. We drove to my house and my aunt was in the kitchen crying on the phone. I got really shaky now. Then my aunt told me how a young girl named, Mariah was hit by a drunk driver with her two friends. My aunt is a nurse and was asked to go to Missoula and watch over Mariah. I then learned my mom taught Mariah and Valorie in fifth grade. I also learned that one of the girls that got hit was my cousin...
