April to June 2009 Pledges
hi I'm megan and i'm in 6th grade i want to except this challenge because i know i can make it i went to dare camp in 5th grade and I've
won the award for being a team player 2 years in a row. I also have always thought that it is really stupid how everyone thinks that they have to start trying everything just because they are older so thats why i except mariah's challenge.
My name is Misty Williams and I am a RN. I am going to Tech to finish my Bachelor's Degree. After researching Mariah's Challenge and the change it's trying to bring about in the community, I chose to do a research project on the organization. I have become very passionate for Mariah's Challenge and am doing my best to make the rest of my classmates, friends, family, and acquatinces aware of Mariah's Challenge and the goal for our communities. I commend you for taking a tragic event and turning it into something positive.
I have been doing a lot of research on Mariah's Challenge recently due to choosing this organization as a topic of interest for a Community Collaboration project for school (I am a Registered Nurse but continuing my education). I have always been familiar with Mariah's Challenge beings that I live in Butte but after doing all of my research I have found extreme passion within myself for this organization! I am so honored that I am able to whole-heartedly accept Mariah's Challenge and look forward to teaching others, every opportunity I encounter, on how important this subject is and encouraging others to also, whole-heartedly accept Mariah's Challenge!
I accept Mariah's Challenge and I will not drink while under 21. I will be responsible and I will set a good example for younger kids.
I accept Mariahs Challege it touched my heart and I'm here to make a difference and Mariahs Challege helped me out more then one way. God Bless.
i think that this is a great challenge i do accept mariah's challenge.
we will never do drugs . we are athletes. but the true athelete was mariah, she never drunk while she was driving.
we all ways except Mariah's Challenge.
accept the challenge
i accept Mariahs chalenge in memory of my cousin Kelly O'Loughlin who also died as a result of drinking and driving.
i would really like to do this challenge because what had happened was not right. i have been around people who drink and drive and it's really scary at times.
I accept Mariah's Challenge!
I accept Mariah's Challenge!
I accept Mariah's Challenge!
I accept Mariah's Challenge!
When i hear about drunkdriving accidents i get very sad because my dad when he was 5 years old was hit by a drunk driver and he is very luck to be alive.... i promise him and my family that i will not drink until i am 21 or older and that i will always drink responsibly....
I firmly believe that this challenge is one for every kid my age to try and accept. I'm only one person and can only make some difference, but if there are tons of us who take the challenge the change can become evident. Thank you.
I Accept Mariah's Challege!
The positive impact you are having on our community is amazing. I work in the Justice Court in Anaconda and I am saddened by the amount of DUI's and was so encouraged to see what you are doing to try to make sure this doesn't happen again. It is truly amazing and I hope you find solace in knowing that I am certain you will make a difference. Our community needs to know that drinking and driving is not acceptable because for whatever reason for far to long it has been made to be ok.
I have accepted Mariah's Challenge.
I accept Mariah's challenge. I know how difficult it is to be in an auto accident with a drunk driver. I was lucky and only had minor injuries, some are still with me today, but the the memories are vivid and the effects have stayed with me. I think this is a wonderful way to keep Mariah's memory and love of life alive. Our family lost a family member when Mariah left us but we can all help others to not have to know this same pain by accepting this challenge.
Thank you for coming to Kellogg High School to present to our students and community. My husband and I are both teachers at KHS and have a 10 year old son. We are thnakful that you have started this program and wish you the best in your continued effort. Our hearts go out to you and your families.
My dad is a heavy drinker and he almost got into an acident with me in the car when i was 10. I want to encourage him to stop drinking and belive I am the only person that can.
I live with an alcoholic father and the pressure to drink is pushed very hard onto me all of the time. I do have a relationship with Jesus Christ, and many people supporting me through church and friends at school, but it's still hard dealing with the drinking problem. My little brother had his first drink about 13-14 years old, and he's only 15, so when we had the assembly at Kellogg High School, everything really hit hard with me. I am inspired and encouraged by this challenge and hope to start a scholarship program with my community. Thanks for standing up for what you believe in...it really does change people's lives.
One of my friend's best friends died after being hit by a drunk driver in California and I want to prevent anyone else from feeling that pain. The kid's dad ended up so depressed he shot my friend's friend's girlfriend, sister, and two nieces. Hopefully it will all stop. Thank you for creating this challenge.
Don't drink underage.
All of Kellogg High School: DON'T DRINK, and later DRINK RESPONSIBLY!!!!
I have always hated people who drink and drive. I think that Mariah's Challenge is amazing. I think that it is sad that someone had to die in order for things to get done. I am glad that you are using her memory to get things changed. My 16th birthday was on October 28th, 2007 and I remember hearing about this story a little later. It was kind of ironic because I told myself on my 16th birthday, while watching family drink that as long as I am underage I will not touch alcohol and that I would never drink and drive. That same year my cousin who was 25 was drinking and he decided to drive. He ran into a tree and tried to kill himself, when he survived with minor scrapes he went home and shot himself right in front of his wife and six month old baby. I have seen what alcohol can do to people and I am glad that the message is being told to people. Thank you for all that you are doing!
I know what it is like to live with drunks. I used to have to put up with one every day for about 18 years. These people has improved dramatically after i have aged and grown to know what is right and wrong. I forced them to listen and sometimes i had to repeat my message many times soon the rest of us non drinkers got the message through. I've never been hit by a drunk but i have ridden with a few and it is scary several times i have had to grab the wheel while they were off in there la la land. One even fell asleep down the rode thankfully they stopped the vehicle before it happened. I thank you for bringing this challenge to Kellogg and i know a few people who may not learn from the unfortunate experience you have until they experience it for themselves.
I accept the challenge after I got a visit from her uncle to my school I've always been alcohol free and I will continue to be.
I think that this message is really important and I am glad that you are sharing this. I even heard that you got President Obama to wear one of the bracelets! Keep up the awesome work and may God be with you and your family!!!!!!!!
I would like to take this challenge so their would be less teendrinking
LOTS OF PEOPLE DIE AT LIFE OF DAWN BECAUSE OF DRUNK DRIVERS. LETS FIX IT. ACCEPT MARIAH'S CHALLENGE.
I'm a Mt Tech alum and received a recent email involving Mariah's Challeng. Browsing this website what I find endearing is the positive message for this generation of youth. It took some time, in to my adult years, for me to realize that true peace and happiness come from within. It is so important for young people to know that acohol won't give them happiness and I think Mariah's Challenge has that capability.
My thoughts are with you. I want to do my little part to help keep our children safe. I do not drink and drive and I try to be a good role model for children. I have a drink maybe two in an entire year. I have two teenagers ages 16 and 14 and I will do my best to get them to accept this challenge as well.
An accident caused by the driver being drunk is NO ACCIDENT!!! We have friends, family and cabs that can get us safely from point A to point B!! "I had no choice, I didn't have a ride, I had to drive" is NEVER an excuse. You always have a choice. No one should ever have to lose a loved one due to drinking and driving!! I encourage everyone to Accept Mariah's Challenge!!!
I just moved home for the summer, but I had lived in a college community for the last 8 months. It's hard to stay away from, yes I admit but I have never drank. I just want to send my condolences.
I'm 19 years old and have never drank, nor have I ridden with someone who was drunk. 2 years ago my cousin was killed by a drunk driver, which makes me want to drink even less. It's not something I desire. I think what you are doing is awesome.
i saw this website on dr.phil show i was interested in this underage drinking and driveing is a big problom every where and needs to be handeled i commend u for what your doing and sorry for your familys lose and i hope this will help change lives
I am over 21 and never picked up a drink in my life. I saw this story and wanted to show support. I do and have always accepted this challenge. Take care and god bless.
i had 2 very close friends die in august 2003 by a drunk driver. Jenelle and kristen. i dont think that it is right for people to drive drunk it is always other people who get hurt from it. very rare is it the driver. one of my friends fathers went and spoke ot high school kids to please never drive drunk. i miss my friends very much and i think everyone should be support against drunk driving.
I am a teacher to be and want to send out the message. I have several teens around me that I would like to get the message to. Thank you for setting this page up and helping the teens out there! You are doing a great thing.
I've always hated alcohol, I just don't understand why people would ever drink, its disgusting. After hearing this horrible story, I'm actually doing something about my hate towards alcohol now.
I definitely accept Mariah's Challenge.
it's terrible what happens to Mariah and I hope the best for this program
I was watching the Dr. Phil show about "DUI Outrage" and saw Mariah's challenge. I am terribly sorry for the loss of Mariah and feel that this is a good way of getting the word out that driving while intoxicated or having a few drinks is unacceptable and should never happen. I have known people personally and through mutual people that have either been killed by a drunk driver or they drive drunk anyways, not taking into consideration that not only are they putting their lives up taking, but other innocent people. This NEEDS to stop. It's heartbreaking and traumatizing to families and friends. My deepest sympathy goes out to Mariah's family and friends.
Emily Bliesner from Wisconsin
I seen this website on Dr.Phil today and seemed very interest. At school this year we had a mock drunk driving accident, and then every 15 min. during that day they came over the intercom, annonced another death in the school cased by a drunk driving accident, that and student was removed from the classroom, had their face painted white, and wore a black t-shirt with the Grim Reeper on it and on the back said living dead, these students weren't aloud to talk to anyone the rest of the day. The following day we had a mock funneral for the student that was in the mock accident, it was so real, a majority of the students cried and it sent sivers up everyones spine. This story about Mariah has touched me deeply.
i hope to keep every one safe
I heard about Mariah's Challenge on the Dr.Phil show. It was perfect time for me. I went out the night before and had 3 drinks. After I had stopped drinking I had someone drive me to my car so I could drive home. I wasn't drunk, but knew that I still had alcohol in my system. Even though I only had to drive a mile to my house, I probably shouldn't have.
I want to pledge for Mariah's challenge to not drink and drive, and to stop drinking all together. Even though I already very seldom drink, there just isn't enough benefit that would make me want to keep doing.
My aunt has been a struggling alcoholic for about 15 years, and I want to do this to prove to myself that I will never become a person like that. She has had 3 DUIs, 2 driving on suspended license, and one charge for leaving the scene of an accident while drunk driving. People that do these things need to be caught and punished. She had warrants out for her arrest and her bail was set at $70 for two movies she had never returned to a rental location. This is ridiculous that our judicial system would ignore the evidence of her drunk driving.
You're family and anyone who has lost a loved one to drunk driving is in my prayers.
I've always been against underage drinking and drunk driving. I heard this story on Dr.Phil and thought it was terrible. I'm so sorry about you're loss. I accept the challenge.
I saw Mariah's Challenge on Dr. Phil's and it is very devastating.
I saw this on Dr. Phil and totally wanted to check it out. I think people who drink are sick anyways, much less when they put lives in danger. I am glad to accept this challenge. :]
I am a young bartender fresh out of school, I have many friends who are under the age of 21 and I always encourage them to not drink and to be a positive influence upon their friends. I work private parties most often and have been passed over for a couple of gigs for refusing to serve minors. I feel that your challenge is a positive way to help minors understand that it's not cool to drink while underage and to show the dangers and consequences of drinking and driving.
As a bartender I serve people alcoholic drinks on almost a nightly basis, and every night I watch people's faces and hope that my judgment, while not popular with the average barfly, will save the lives of girls like Mariah and many others.
I am a 26yrs old. I was watching the Dr. Phil show and saw your daughters story. My heart goes out to you and your family and friends. I have personally never been affected by a tragedy because of drunk driving but have always practiced safe and sober driving habits. I am always the DD, which I have no problem with. The few times I've given that responsibility to someone else I always end up getting a cab because they choose to drink. I've always felt that if you are drinking and driving that you give no value to your life, your passengers lives, or the other drivers lives on the road. I deeply respect what you are doing and the message you are sending to everyone!
I hope the best for this program i was watching dr.phils show and i feel really bad and i accept the challenge.
I saw this Challenge and their message on Dr. Phil, and this is something i wish everyone was apart of. So many kids drink and honestly i drank this last weekend. I did not drive, we stayed in an apartment... but this is what scared me.
I have heard that people sometimes got so drunk that they didn't remember anything, well we drank two nights in a row. The first night i was questioning it like oh i remember everything from last night i don't know what they mean when people say they don't remember and they are just using it as an accuse. Then the next day we drank, apparently i was up till 7 in the morning drinking and partying, but i dont remember after about 3 a.m. And that scares me that i could have done ANYTHING and not remembered it. Thankfully it was a small get together like only 6 people, and i trusted all of them, plus 3 of them were not drinking which was a good thing. I know you want to drink and have fun especially if it is your birthday like i wanted to this last weekend, but i don't want to be responsible for the death of another person, and wish people would do the same for me.
Sadly, the world isn't as nice as you and I could wish.
A month ago, a good friend of mine and his mother were killed by a drunk driver. This, however, was not the driver's first offense. He had numerous DUIs and he had been pulled over the night before the accident for driving on a suspended license. This man was only given a "warning". My friend and his mother would still be here if it were not for this selfish man. I also hold law enforcement responsible. They did not fulfill their duty of protecting the public. This man should have been arrested for driving on a suspended license. I think states, schools, etc. should adopt Mariah's Challenge. Countless numbers of men and women would still be alive if tougher drinking and driving laws were enacted. I accept Mariah's Challenge. Do you?
I think that this is such a good cause. I first saw this on Dr. Phil and I told my mom that I wanted to be apart of it as soon as possible! So here I am.
1 day my parents were watching dr. phil and they were talking about drunk drivers. dr. phil brought up about Mariah's challenge and i decided to check it out. this has especially stoped me from walking down by the roads and drinking. Thanks for encouraging people to help.

As a daughter of a repeat offender I do understand the frustration with the legal system when they only discipline with "a slap on the wrist". My father fortunately did not murder anyone by drinking and driving. I do however understand how mad I stay about this very serious crime and its lenient consequences.
About 3 years ago, a girl in my town was killed because she got into a car with a drunk driver. The driver lived. I saw so many friends and teachers hurting because of the loss of this wonderful girl. I never want to see that happen again.
I would love to accept Mariahs Challenge. I have had many people very close to me killed by drunk drivers. I will pray for you and your family. God Bless~Kelcie<3
I accept the challenge. I believe it is ridiculous for our underage drivers to even think about drinking and driving. I am 20 Years old and have lost many friends as well as family members to drunk drivers. I believe that what you are doing is absolutley wonderful!
i accept mariah's challenge, i had a cousin die cause of a drunk driver when i was only 2months old i konw the affects it has on family's and other people. please never drink and drive
I saw this and my heart sunk. I am thirteen and my mom bugs me about this all the time and I tell her I am smart I know better, but I also have heard this poem
I Went To A Party, Mom
( Read all the way to the bottom and sign your name. )
I went to a party,
And remembered what you said.
You told me not to drink, Mom,
so I had a Sprite instead.
I felt proud of myself,
The way you said I would,
that I didn't drink and drive,
though some friends said I should.
I made a healthy choice,
And your advice to me was right.
The party finally ended,
and the kids drove out of sight.
I got into my car,
Sure to get home in one piece.
I never knew what was coming, Mom,
something I expected least..
Now I'm lying on the pavement,
And I hear the policeman say,
the kid that caused this wreck was drunk,
Mom, his voice seems far away.
My own blood's all around me,
As I try hard not to cry.
I can hear the paramedic say,
this girl is going to die..
I'm sure the guy had no idea,
While he was flying high.
Because he chose to drink and drive,
now I would have to die.
So why do people do it, Mom
Knowing that it ruins lives ?
And now the pain is cutting me,
like a hundred stabbing knives.
Tell sister not to be afraid, Mom
Tell daddy to be brave.
And when I go to heaven,
put ' Mommy's Girl ' on my grave.
Someone should have taught him,
That it's wrong to drink and drive.
Maybe if his parents had,
I'd still be alive.
My breath is getting shorter,
Mom I'm getting really scared
These are my final moments,
and I'm so unprepared.
I wish that you could hold me Mom,
As I lie here and die.
I wish that I could say, ' I love you,Mom ! '
So... I love you and goodbye.

and I realized that I don't have to be the one drinking to be hurt
I am so sorry for your loss i always serve as a designated driver
i was watching Dr.Phil today, and this caught my attention. im so sorry for your loss. Sadly things like this happen everyday where i live.
I am 18 and do not drink and never get in a car with somebody who has been drinking. I dont drink @ all and I have never had anything to drink in my entire life and when i saw this on Dr. Phil i was kina sad 4 u. I am so sorry for your daughter.
Hi. My name is Autumn Johnson, I am 15 1/2 and I lost my Great-Great Aunt to a drunk driver. Unfortunately, she was in the car with the drunk driver and she lost her life because they got into an accident and she went into a coma. She later had no life left other than being hooked up to a machine. They knew that it wasn't what she wanted. I am taking the challenge because I want to graduate high school and turn twenty-one without having a single sip.
I believe this challenge stands for all the situations we experience. Since I live on a highway I sometimes look out the window or look down the street and see a car accident. I hope this challenge will enlighten people in my community
I made the decision to remain sober until I'm of age when i was around 11. There was no particular reason for my decision, I just remember hearing stories of people dying due to alcohol and I never wanted to be involved in that. I am sixteen now and I have remained true to that. I do have friends that drink or drank in the past, and I was always the first to voice my opinion that I didn't approve of their decision. A few, ones that are close to me, have stopped drinking too. I have had the pressure to drink and I stayed strong, and I will continue to be.
hey my name is caroline elinburg an i wacthed dr.phil an heard about your story an im sorry to hear that you lost your girl an i live with a dad who has a drinking promble an it is ever had to live with an my friends drink alot well all the kids in our small town do an i almost lost a dad to it an i use to drink an i stop i saw what it was doing to me an i just got saved an stop my drinking an i wants to help people to stop drink it kills me to see kids killing themself my drink an i know you live so far away but i would for you to come talk to my school about your story an see if it would help any
I'm sorry for your loss, I think it's a great program in honor of Mariah. I plan on implementing this challenge to others around me and my kids. Thank You & Take Care, God Bless..
I chose to accept this challenge because I want to have a part in preventing drinking and driving. Too many innocent people, such as Mariah, lose their lives to drunk drivers, all because they weren't considering what danger they were putting others in when they got into the car, drunk. I believe truly that every person has a choice to not drink and drive, and to not be an underage drinker. It can start with just one person making the right decision to not drink and drive, and many lives could be saved.
I have a teenage daughter and I accept the challenge.
I think is is a Great thing that you are doing, I fully support it. I am a volunteer Firefighter in NJ and see what drinking and driving does.
i accept the challenge.
My best friend Dixie died by her mom after she was drinking. I miss her everyday and I feel so bad for anybody who loses someone close.
I accept this challenge to not drink and drive. Also to be a role modle to younger children who may have the influence to do so.
I am the mother of a 1year old son and he has changed my life.
I am so sorry for your loss with your daughter.
I am so happy that you have this site up and running as I am a strong believer in not drinking and driving, having an alternate route or a Designated driver.
I couldnt imagine my life without my son, or my son's life without his mother, heaven forbid something ever happen to either of us.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of your family and the role you play in Mariah's Challenge. I watched you on Dr. Phil this afternoon and was so glad to see your message go out nationally. I do fully accept the challenge and thank you for the service you are doing for this community, this state, and this nation.
Love in Christ, Kathy J. Frew
i think teens should be smart enough to not drink. and even more to not drink and drive. it isnt hard to do the right thing and be responsible. by not being under the influence you can save your own life and others lives.
Hi, I am so sorry about your loss. Things like this should never happen. There is a age on drinking for a reason, but even adults should never drive under the influence. To do my part, I promise as a young high school student. If more people could spread the word about what is happening and what could happen, things like this would rarely happen. I support this 110% This is a great way to let teens know what the consequences are to there actions. Much love, Stephanie.
I accept the challenge in California
This story really hit me i have never drank and never will cause too many people life can be affected with ones decision.
Hello to everyone involved with this great organization,
My name is Allyna Sanchez and I am currently graduating from Catalina Foothills high school in tucson arizona. This year one of my best friends and a guy who is just like everyones brother almost past away due to a drinking accident. He been drunk and jumped off a roof with the intension of landing in the pool. However, he had slipped when jumping and landed on the concrete while then falling into the pool. Luckily our friends thought on their feet and while our stronger guy friends jumped into the pool to pull him out the girls were on the phone with the paramedics and running to get other adults. After he was out of the pool he began seizing in our arms and then while in the ambulance, he had flat lined. This accident was only a little over a month ago and now, he walks away with only limited movement in his wrist, loss of hearing in his right ear, and loss of control over the right side of his face. I thank God everyday that he is alive and able to be with us. My school, and friends especially are closer than ever before and now stopping people from being stupid with alcohol, or any substance. I saw on Dr. Phil today what you all do, and I am so glad to see that people like yourselves are keeping kids aware of the severity of drinking. Thank you for the work you do.
I had seen a commercial for Mariah's Challenge and was immediately touched by this story. I have seen first hand what drinking and driving can do to someone, especially an underage person, and I want to help spread the word of this wonderful challenge and to hope to see a drop in deaths due to drunk driving. I am sending thoughts and prayers to all those who knew Mariah and want to thank her father for starting this wonderful organization.
I am really sorry for your loss. She seems like she was an amazing girl. Since this tragedy happened, people all over are becoming more aware of what is taking place regularly. Everyone keep your held high and justr remember everything happens for a reason.
RIP Mariah! I accept your challenge!
I am currently at work and was watching Dr. Phil today. I seen the challenge and want to help get the word out. I know a lot of young teens might have missed the show today. I am over 21 and a single parent, drinking and driving is not an option for me. I currently serving in the US Navy, working in the medical field as a Hospital Corpsman. I would proudly accept the challenge and I will challege the youth to accept it as well.
i will never drink and drive
Great work, keep spreading the message.
I am really going to accept this because my cousin was killed by a drunk driver and he was only ten.
There is ABSOLUTELY no reason that anybody should die because of another's ignorance. Mariah, you are an angel and you have helped so many to realize the error in their ways..... I am one of those people. I apologize to you and your family for the stupid mistakes I've made in the past. Your wings will help guide me in the right direction forever and I promise to you, Mariah, I will never drive under the influence again. You have not died in vain.
I know it has not been quite 2 years but I promise you things will get easier. My mother was killed by a man who felt he didn't need to stop at a stop sign, when I was 15. I am 29 now and you never forget and you will think of her everyday! I am glad to hear you have touched so many highschool kids with this challenge. I have a 7 year old daughter and I don't know what I would do without her. I want to make this world a safe place for kids where they don't feel like they have to go drink and do bad things to be "cool". If I had the power I would put every dui arrest in jail and take their lisence and car away until they accepted your challenge. Ok well good luck in all you do. I promise it will get easier.
I have accepted Mariah's Challenge because i don't want to drink and drive....EVER!!! I couldn't take another persons life in to my hands. I don't want to be responsible to hold another person and my life in my hands, and one false move, it can be gone, just like that. So to all who haven't accepted the Challenge.... DO IT!!! Do it for your community, do it for yourself, and do it for that persons life that can be taken away with that one false move. Just do it.
It is a tragedy that Mariah's life was taken so young and by an underage drunk driver.
I will strive to be a good person, to keep myself and others safe, and I promise to never ever step foot behind the wheel of my car after drinking.
Rest in peace Mariah.
I Accept Mariah's Challenge!
Make memories that you can remember.
I accept Mariah's Challenge as I get ready to graduate and start college.
I will not drink and drive I am over 21, I will also make sure my friends and family don't as well
I'm a sixteen year old girl. I live in a small town in northwest Missouri. The town i live in has a lot of involvement in drug use and alcoholism. My father has recieved two DWIs. If he receives another he will go to prison. I have had my license for three months and have not and do not plan on having a drink of alcohol
I vowed last year to not drink because there are plenty of other things to keep a person happy. In January 2009 I was almost killed by a driver so feel asleep. Although he was not drunk, I can realte to accidents that could've been avoided.
I saw mariahs challenge on the dr.phil show, so i decided to check it out. i really hope that mariahs challenge will spread all over the wrold. i accept the challenge with open arms and will do my very best to keep other people from drinking and driving. i am ashamed to say that i have a friend, well not so much a friend but a person i see from time to time, and he drinks and drive all the time, i yell at him and tell him he is stupid. but i am saying this to mariah, i will involve the police next time he leaves my house drunk. and that is a promise to you and the life you got taken away. i will talk to my friends and family and have them take the challenge as well
I am going to accept this challenge. I will be getting my license next month and I will NEVER get into a car if I have been drinking or if someone else was drinking. I know the effects as one of my cousins was killed on Christmas Eve about 5 - 6 years ago due to a drunk driver. Please everyone please accept this challenge!!
I saw your segment on Dr. Phil and my hearts goes out to you and your entire family. I believe in what you are doing. Hopefully with a challenge like this we can keep all children safe. I have printed and signed and accepted Mariah's challenge.
I suggest everyone should do this.
I am an 18 year old college student who has just finished her freshmen year, and already I have seen the negative effects of alcohol in the hands of people my age, people who are underage. I myself take a strong stance against alcohol, drug abuse, and driving under the influence, committing myself to a life of sobriety. People my age are very naive when it comes to consequences of their actions, and many times people, like dear Mariah, pay the price for these actions, sometimes with their lives. I accept Mariah's challenge becuase it reflects who I am and what I value for myself and for others. My heart goes out to Mariah's family and friends, I wish you all the best, and hope that you take comfort in the fact that your little girl will never be forgotten.
I accept Mariah's Challenge
"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven" (Ecclesiastes 3:1).
May God touch Maria loved one's heart and give them strength to reach the Challenge nationwide.
i promise to take mariahs challenge seriously. may she rest in peace and forever fly with the angels.
i'm so sorry for the loss of your beautiful daughter, i have a 17 year old boy and am scared everytime he leaves the house... i have showed him this sight and we saw this on Dr. Phil, he also watched the show with me...
An amazing act of courage from a family hit by the worst type of tragedy imaginable.
I am deeply sorry about the loss of your beautiful daughter. I have 3 children of my own and I will teach them the importance of the decisions that they make and how their choices can impact the lives of everyone they come in contact with. My children and I accept Mariahs Challenge and I hope that other parents will do the same. You have started a wonderful program. My prayers are with your family.
I want to be a part of Mariah's challenge as well as get my school involved to promote good decisions among minors.
I accept the challenge!
I believe that it is wrong that people drink and drive. i believe that their friends would at least take their keys from them.
I will accept Mariahs challenge for there is no reason to drink.
I accept the challenge!!
I am such a supporter of teens not drinkng. When I hear of my friends drinking on the weekends I honestly cannot believe it. Alcohol is so easily available to teenagers now more than ever...for some weird reason. Parents think of their children as drinking buddies or as adults that can handle themselves under the influence. I think that reasoning is ridiculous and a completely obsurd reason to let your under-age child drink alcohol. I have had a sip of alcohol from my mother so that i can realize how terrible it tasted and trust me, that deterred me from any type of alcohol.
People that drink-and-drive make up the idiotic part of the world's population. Alcohol is a poison to me. It slowly kills you and doesnt help you in any way(unless you are trying to numb yourself from being shot!). People and a large population of high schoolers think that alcohol isnt a big deal and that it is normal for anyone to have a couple of beers on the weekend or with friends. Having drinks with friends after work is something that adults do...not teenagers after school on a friday.
I accept Mariah's Challlenge so that I can be more commited to not drinking and have another reason not to be drunk besides that fact that it is unacceptable under age.
I accept your challenge, Mariah. Rest in peace.
On behalf of me and my husband we give you our deepest condolences we could never imagine how much pain you and your family must be feeling but just know that you are in our prayers and that she is in a better place now rejoicing with her savior in peace i pray god gives you and all your family peace in your time of heartache her memory lives on through the ones that speak of her and remember her daily the man that took her from you has to answer to god so have peace and once again we are soooo sorry for your loss but look foward to your future of bringing drunk driving awareness to youth everywhere so for that iwe thank you from the bottom of our hearts good luck. SINCERELY KARINA AND GABRIEL GARCIA.
i accept this challenge
I recently had a great friend die in a horrible car accident. Although nobody was drinking, I'm accepting this challenge because I would hate to see someone almost voluntarily cause their family and friends to go through the same pain I did. RIP James Moffat<3
I becase very interested in Mariah's challenge and am up for it. I'd like to learn more bout it. I am currently a 16 almost 17 yearold highschool student and am constantly undergoing peerpressure to drink or do any other kind of drugs. I am also constantly looked down upon because i choose not to drink.
Laura S. Martinez
I'm 23 years old, and married and also 4 1/2 months pregnant. I used to drink before I was pregnant, but I want my life to be better for my baby and to show other's you can have fun without drinking.
I think that the idea of Mariah's challenge is great and meaningful. It's definitely a help to our whole community. I'm sorry for the friends and family's loss. Mariah, rest in peace
I'm 10 years old and I accept Mariah's Challenge.
I Accept Mariah's Challenge I pledge to not drink and drive and not to drink on graduation night and I pledge never to drink and Drive
I believe this challenge stands for all the situations we experience. Since I live on a highway I sometimes look out the window or look down the street and see a car accident. I hope this challenge will enlighten people in my community.
I accept Mariah`s challenge because I think drinking is very wrong. If you have more than three drinks drink you shouldn`t drive home. They should make the "Under 21" law stricter because under aged drinking is wrong. This is a great way to think and convince kids and adults to not to drink and drive.
I am a freshmen algebra teacher at Godinez Fundamental High School. This is my first year techng high school, I spent 10 years teaching middle school. I was shocked at the number of freshman students who admitted drinking, and drinking to excess. I am the daughter of an alcoholic, and both my brother and I are non-drinkers. I was hoping to purchase some of your wrist bands and get some young people on the band wagon at our school. You may contact me at the email address listed above. Thank you.
I'm very sorry for everyone's loss it is a very sad story and I think that everyone should accept Mariah's Challenge and I hope everything goes the way it suppose to! I wish that teens would realize that it isn't cool to drink and drive it does hurt people and there much other ways to have fun than drink this should be a perfect example of what can happen because teen think it's cool to drink and drive or think they can.
To the parents, friends, and family members of Mariah Dayne MaCarthy:
I am exteremely and truley sorry for your loss. I accept Mariah's Challenge because I don't want to get into drinking or drugs. I know that me accepting Mariah's Challenge can't bring Mariah back, but it can help the prevention of under-aged drinking, and that's something I think Mariah would have wanted to influance to my generation and all generations.
mariah was a pretty girl i am so sorry
I am sorry for your loss. I wanted to say that I accept Mariah's Challenge!
It can happen to anyone!

I accept Mariah's Challenge!!!
I accept the challenge
The amount of effort put into this challenge is outstanding and inspirational.
I used to drink many time while in high school and now that i just graduated i see that there is no reason to drink, there are no positives things that come from drinking and that's why i accept this challenge
God Bless your family and every family that you touch by Mariah's challenge, i know what its like to lose a friend by a drunk driver i have lost 3.
I believe this challenge is the best idea. It gives high school students the incentives to go through high school without an M.I.P. you can be rewarded. It is wrong for any minor to drink no matter how much.
i have asked all my friends also now to accept the challenge
